AXE- WHAT I'M WATCHING (NEW SEASONS ARE BACK!)

October 5, 2018

It's the first week of October, which means most shows have started their new seasons (and the ones that haven't will in the next week or two). Thanks to on-demand and DVR, I don't miss a minute of my shows (I still have flashbacks of having to set the VCR timer to record. And it was the worst when you forgot to put a tape in the deck... ugh). Here's what I'm into currently (starting at Monday and working through the week).

First up is 'The Voice' which airs Monday and Tuesday. Even though the majority of artists on the show are pop and country acts, it's still really fun watching these talented people recognize and achieve their dream. The competiton between the coaches is fun too. And it's refreshing to see a show where talented vocalists (this year's coaches are Adam LevineKelly ClarksonJennifer Hudson, and Blake Shelton) coach and teach young raw talent.

Also on Tuesday is 'This Is Us'. I have to be honest, I'm not caught up to Season 3 yet. I got into it recently at the suggestion of my wife but even just four episodes into Season 1, I can tell it's a great drama with a deep, drawn out plot.

I'll also be watching 'The Connors' when it makes it's debut Tuesday, October 16th. This is a spin off of 'Roseanne' minus Roseanne Barr. I'm going to give this one a shopt because I liked 'Roseanne' (the original and the reboot) and this show kept a lot of the writers from the reboot. I'm also a fan of John Goodman and Sara Gilbert who will both be back.

On Wednesday, it's 'Modern Family'. I've been a fan from the beginning and it's been fun watching the characters and family grow together. I may also identify a little too much with the character of Phil Dumphey...

Thursday is the big day with 3 shows.

First up is 'Law & Order: SVU'. It's hard to believe it's in it's 20th season, and still has two of it'as original cast memebrs in Ice Tb and Mariska Hargitay, but the stories are still riveting and keep you on the edge of your seat for the whole hour!

Next up on Thursday is 'Superstore' which just had it's Season 4 premeire last night. This was a show that I found right when it debuted and instantly fell in love with. The writing is clever and the jokes are quick and witty. The characters are also well drawn out and developed.

Last on Thursday is 'The Big Bang Theory' (although Season 12 debuted on a Monday but has now moved to Thursday's). I know this show tends to be a "love it or hate it" show for a lot of people and I guess I fall into the "love it" category. I wish it wasn't the final season but it has had a great run and will hopefully deliver one more season of great laughs.

On Friday, it's the former ABC, now revived on Fox sitcom 'Last Man Standing'. I know as a liberal I'm "not supposed to" like this show but it does a nice job of finding a balance with a conservative protagonist and a politically divided family (much the way the revived 'Roseanne' was before it was cancelled due to Roseanne Barr's racist Twitter post). The first episode of the new season was much more political than any of the previous episodes so it will be interesting to see how they move forward through the rest of the season.

On Sunday, it's all about the animation.

First up is 'Bob's Burgers'. This is a show I've been into since the very beginning and I even belong to a fan page on Facebook. The writing is superb and the humor is my kind of awkward.

And last up on Sunday is 'Family Guy'. I simply love the fact that nothing is off limits and the jokes and gags seem to get more outlandish as the series goes on. Hard to believe they're on Season 17 (not bad for a show that's been canceled three times).

That's all for now. I hope you enjoyed this list. Maybe I'll do another post in the future about the shows I'm watching on Netflix (I seriously don't have enough time to watch all these shows! There's so much TV!!!).
